Summary

This report is the fourth in a series of reports on a Research Investigation for the Improvement of Ship Mooring Methods. The fourth report, which is in effect a corrigendum to B.S.R.A. reports NS.179, 256 and 304, contains basic wind and current resistance data, and wind and current total-force coefficients for each class of ship dealt with in the earlier reports in both load and ballast conditions.

Specimen calculations of the forces imposed by wind and current and the required restraints are given in Appendices I and II respectively. The calculation of the force required to haul the ship alongside its berth is given in Appendix ill while a list of corrections to calculations given in the earlier mooring reports is given in Appendix IV.
